Super Eagles and Lille ‘keeper, Vincent Enyeama’s outstanding work between the sticks of Ligue 1’s top defence saw him beat in-form Paris Saint-Germain superstars, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Edinson Cavani, to the Player of the Month award for October.
After Paris-Saint-Germain’s Marco Verratti claimed the first Player of the Month award of the 2013/14 season in September, Lille ‘keeper, Vincent Enyeama, has swept aside his competition for the second gong of the season, claiming 71 per cent of the vote to pip Zlatan Ibrahimovic (19 per cent) and Edinson Cavani (10 per cent) to the honour handed out by the UNFP (National Union of Professional Footballers) and sports daily L’Equipe.
Second-placed Lille’s impressive form this season has been based on a water-tight defence.
The Rene Girard’s men have conceded just four goals in 13 Ligue 1 matches and there is no doubt that Nigerian international Enyeama’s imperious presence in goal has been the foundation of that miserly tally.
Enyeama has hit the ground running this season, replacing Steeve Elana as first-choice ‘keeper under new coach Girard after two seasons on the bench, following his move from Hapoel Tel-Aviv, and has kept an amazing 11 clean sheets in his 13 appearances so far.
