Super Eagles’ and Lille of France shot stopper, Vincent Enyeama, has emerged the best goalkeeper as he has joined other top stars selected to form the French Ligue 1 team of the season.
It is impossible to look past Enyeama, who came close to breaking the French record of minutes without conceding a goal in Le Championnat.
The Nigerian international went past the 11-hour mark before eventually succumbing to a deflected shot and has been in inspirational form for his side.
But it has not just been Enyeama who has excelled: Simon Kjaer joined the club in the summer and has been reborn, playing a vital role in a defence that has kept an impressive 14 clean sheets – more than anyone else in Europe.
Thiago Silva, meanwhile, may have been restricted to 13 league appearances, yet he remains the classiest player in the centre-back position in the world.
On the right, Serge Aurier’s performances for Toulouse have earned glances from Arsenal, while on the left Henri Bedimo has enjoyed an all-action start to the campaign for Olympique Lyonnais, for whom he has been the outstanding player.
Unsurprisingly, this team is dominated by the top three sides, who have opened up a healthy advantage over their rivals in the first half of the campaign, and this continues in midfield where Marco Verratti has further matured under Laurent Blanc and is now a leader of PSG.
Alongside him is new Monaco addition, Jeremy Toulalan, who has provided a solid base for the principality side to build from.
James Rodriguez had a quiet start to life in France but has now established himself has Monaco’s playmaker and has arguably been their outstanding figure in the opening half of the campaign.
Flanking him will be Edinson Cavani, who has shown he is more than capable of occupying a role out on the wing, despite doubts over his capability to perform such a task in pre-season, while Remy Cabella has been Montpellier’s sole bright spot in an otherwise miserable campaign.
Rounding off the team is, of course, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who has been unquestionably France’s outstanding player since the beginning of the season.
In total, he has scored 15 Ligue 1 goals, including an outrageous scorpion kick against Bastia, which will go down as one of the most memorable strikes in the world this season.
