Ekiti governorship race: Adeyeye picks nomination form

Former Publicity Secretary of Afenifere, Prince Dayo Adeyeye, one of the aspirants for the Ekiti State forthcoming governorship election, on Tuesday picked the nomination form for the Peoples Democratic Party primaries.
Speaking shortly after picking the form at the National Secretariat of the party in Abuja, Adeyeye said he picked the form in compliance with the directives of the party’s leadership.
He said his greatest interest was for the PDP to win the election, saying: “I am not against the consensus arrangement.
“I am also not afraid of primary election.
“I am only here to comply with the directive of the National Chairman, Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu, by obtaining my expression of interest and nomination forms.
“If a consensus candidate is picked among lawful aspirants, as a loyal member of the PDP, I am ready to comply with it.
“Mu’azu told us there is no aspirant in the PDP yet, until we pick the nomination and expression of interest forms.
“In an examination, unless you write the exams, you are not a candidate.
“I am here to fulfil the aspirations of the party.
“I am now an aspirant as defined by the party chairman and the constitution of our great party.”
Mu’azu had earlier, admonished Ekiti State governorship aspirants to first pick the nomination form.
This, he said, was necessary for anyone to be called and addressed as an aspirant and qualify to participate in the activities for the primary.
Adeyeye urged fellow aspirants to drop all their personal interests and work in the greater interest of the party, which he said would be the only way to reclaim Ekiti State from the opposition.
“I believe that if all aspirants could drop their differences and join hands to build the party, PDP will reclaim the state from the opposition,” he said.
The aspirant said he had always looked up to a time when aspirants would shelve their aspirations and queue behind one of them, all in the interest of the party.
He maintained that PDP lost Ekiti State to the All Progressives Congress through court pronouncements and not because the party did not get the ballot.
Adeyeye stressed that he has what it takes to win the primaries, adding that a political movement called Prince Adedayo Adeyeye Movement had been created in the state.
“We are working hard to win not only the primary, but the governorship election itself,” he said.
Adeyeye also visited the offices of the National Secretary and Auditor, Prof. Wale Oladipo and Adewole Adeyanju respectively, where he assured them of PDP’s victory in the June 21 election.
The National Organising Secretary, Abubakar Mustapha, who handed the forms to Adeyeye, said: “The election is very important to us and we are ready to do everything lawful to win.”
Mustapha reiterated the seriousness of the PDP to return Ekiti State to the party.
The nomination form is being sold for N10 million, while the Expression of Interest costs N1 million.
Ekiti State Ward congresses, primary election and electoral appeal would hold between March 12 and March 17, while the governorship election would hold on June 21.
