Ekiti APC lawmakers withdraw from peace meeting over plot to arrest them

The 19 All Progressives Congress members in the Ekiti State House of Assembly have withdrawn from a peace meeting brokered by Chief Afe Babalola.
The meeting was slated for Thursday at the Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti.
The peace meeting was aimed at finding a solution to the crisis in the Ekiti State House of Assembly, which had pitched the APC lawmakers against those elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party.
The withdrawal from the meeting, a statement by the APC lawmakers said, was sequel to a secret plan to use the meeting as a booby trap to seize the members as they approach the university campus.
The statement, quoting Government House sources, said Governor Ayodele Fayose wa‎s celebrating with his aides last night that he had succeeded in getting over his impeachment plot.
Fayose was quoted by the statement as saying that the lawmakers will be arrested without even seeing Chief Babalola and they will be in detention until June 1.
The statement, signed by Wole Olujobi, the spokesperson for the impeached Speaker of the Assembly, Dr. Adewale Omirin, said security sources confirmed on Wednesday night they could not guarantee the lawmakers’ safety and advised that they should watch their movement.
The lawmakers have already contacted Chief Babalola to shift the meeting to Abuja and that they would be willing to foot the bill.
