Oyo State Basketball Team, Oluyole Warriors, on Thursday kept alive their hope of qualifying for the final four of the Nigeria DSTV Premier Basketball League with a win over Comets of Lagos at the indoor Sports Hall of the Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamsingba, Ibadan, Oyo State with a comfortable 79-69 points.
Oluyole Warriors Inspirational point guard, Sola Alayande, returned after missing eight games due to injury, scoring 17 points to record the highest number of points of the game.
Incidentally, his last game before the knee injury was against Comets in Lagos.
Mojubaoluwa Oyeleye was again in blistering form as he notched in 15 points despite recording no point in the first quarter.
Skipper Femi Adekeye and Saheed Oladipupo had 11 points each while Forwards Femi Solomon and Biouwoumi Aigberia had 10 and eight points respectively.
Comets, tutored by national team coach, Ayo Bakare, fought gallantly but could not match the firepower of the host. Sulaimon Akeem was the highest pointer for the visitors as he recorded 16 points followed by guard, Simon Owochi, who had 13 points.
With the win, the Oluyole Warriors remain in the fourth and final qualifying place for the final four in the Atlantic Conference of the league, with just one week to the end of the league.
Oluyole Warriors Coach, Yemi Abiodun, was full of praises to his boys while thanking the state government for the support his team has received which he described as the big motivating factor.
Abiodun said: “The state government, through the Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Mr. Dapo Lam-Adesina, has been our pillar of support.
“What else can we say than to thank him.”
The two teams will square up again on Friday for the second game at the same venue.
