The Federal Road Safety Commission on Wednesday said that poor internet connection hindered the capturing of the bio data of applicants for driver’s licence nationwide.
The Lagos Sector Commander, Chidi Nkwonta, told the News Agency of Nigeria in Lagos that application processing centres could not function effectively throughout Wednesday because of poor network.
Nkwonta, however, told NAN that engineers were working to restore normalcy.
He said: “We have been on this operation without any obstruction.
“Applicants come here and are attended to by officers.
“Everything has been orderly.
“However, there is a network problem nationwide.
“It affected continuation today.
“Once it is fixed, normalcy will be restored.
“The issue is that most drivers are now relaxed.
Many of them are nowhere to be found since the extension date was announced late last year.
“It will be better for them to come now.
“Waiting for the new deadline can be dangerous.”
NAN reports that the deadline for procurement of a new driver’s licence and number plate has been extended from September 30, 2013 to June 30, 2014.
