Stanley Eguma, the Manager of Dolphins Football Club of Port Harcourt, on Monday said the club had no intention of paying compensation to Norwegian top division side, Sarpsborg 08.
The News Agency of Nigeria recalls that Dolphins FC’s Emem Eduok had been involved in a transfer controversy with Esperance of Tunisia and Sarpsborg 08.
Both clubs were laying claims to the player who scored 20 goals in the Nigeria Professional Football League last season.
Eduok had signed a three-and-a-half-year deal with Esperance and is already playing for them, while the Norwegian side later claimed he belonged to them.
Sarpsborg 08 had, through their sporting director, Thomas Berntsen, also announced that a four-year pre-contract deal had been signed by the former Akwa United forward in December.
Backing up their claims with photos of Eduok signing documents, the club claimed they signed him from a club named A & B Academy.
They then vowed to report both Dolphins and Esperance to FIFA.
Eguma, however, told NAN that Sarpsborg 08 have now relented on this and have been requesting that Dolphins pay some form of compensation.
He however said they had no business with the Norwegian club and would, as such, not pay any compensation to the club.
He said: “We cannot pay any compensation, which is being demanded by the Norwegian club, because they never contacted us in the first instance.
“Also, we do not know the terms of agreement they had with the so-called A & B Academy, which they claimed sold the player to them.
“So, we do not have to put in anything where there is nothing.”
Eguma also noted that it was a well-known fact that Edouk was a Dolphins’ player who had been with the club and scored 20 goals for the club last season.
He said: “So, why should a club start opening transaction with an academy for such a player?
“That means they did not have the correct information about the profile of the player they wanted to buy.
“So, that is their own mistake and not ours.”
