The Delta State Police Command has arrested a rape suspect and recovered a locally made gun and cartridge.
This was revealed in a statement issued by the spokesman of the Command, DSP Edafe Bright, on Tuesday in Asaba.
Bright said on Monday at about 1am, one Ayuba Adavo, 34, was arrested based on the strength of a case reported by a 25-year-old lady of Sapele-Warri Road that on the same day at about 8pm while she was along Amagiya Road, Sapele, the suspect blocked her way and dragged her to his room.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, the victim said the suspect threatened to shoot her with a locally made cut to size gun and forcefully had carnal knowledge of her.
Bright noted that the suspect thereafter slept off because he was heavily drunk.
He stated that when the victim noticed that the suspect was fast asleep, she sneaked out and ran to Sapele Division, where she reported the case.
Bright noted that consequently, patrol team/detectives were drafted to the scene.
He stated that the suspect was promptly arrested, with one locally cut to size gun and one live cartridge was recovered from him.
He added that investigation is ongoing.
