Taiwo Adah, a player with the Sand Eagles of Nigeria, on Sunday assured football fans that the team would defeat their Lebanese counterpart in their last match in the ongoing Copa Lagos Beach Soccer in Lagos.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Nigeria’s Sand Eagles bounced back from their 6-3 defeat from Cote D’Ivoire to beat England 8-6, while it stands a chance on the medals’ table.
Adah told NAN that the Nigerian team’s victory over the England’s team would inspire them to deliver when they would play against the Lebanese team.
He said: “We rose to the occasion against the English team.
“We knew they were a very strong opposition, so we had to play with a lot of determination.
“In our next match against the Lebanese team, we just have to give our best and make the country proud.
“We understand that the Lebanese team is equally hungry for victory, having lost their last game but we assure our fans that we will surely conquer them.”
Also, Mark Colbert, one of the English players, told NAN that the team would defeat Cote D’Ivoire’s team when they meet in their final match.
Colbert said having lost two games in the competition, the team had discovered where they were deficient and had planned to be more tactical in their next game.
He said: “We have lost two games already and this is not just right.
“We just have to pick up ourselves and try to play well against our next opponent.
“We cannot just come to Nigeria and lose all our matches.
“We have to show our qualities by being more physical and be more clinical in our finishing.
“We are aware that the task before us is quite huge because Cote D’ Ivoire team had beaten their two opponents, but we are not bothered about that.”
NAN reports that the 2015 Copa Lagos kicked off on December 18 and end on December 20 with teams like FC Barcelona, Lebanon, England, Cote D’Ivoire and Shooting Stars competing for honours.
Nigeria’s Sand Eagles, Pepsi Football Academy and Kano Pillars make up the eight teams competing for the championship trophy.
The event will end with the traditional fashion and musical show.
