Confab: Lamido of Adamawa threatens walk out by North

The Lamido of Adamawa, Alhaji Muhammed Barkindo Mustapha, on Wednesday threatened to lead his people out of the national conference if decorum and respect for one another are not observed.
At the resumption of plenary, the contentious issue of voting pattern was revisited and could still not be resolved.
While some are in support of Order 6 Rules 4, which states that “any questions proposed for decision in the conference shall be determined by consensus and when this is not achievable, by a three-quarter majority of the delegates present and voting”, others favour two-third majority.
While making his contribution, the Lamido warned delegates against ‘jingoism’, saying it was not the exclusive preserve of anyone or group.
He therefore enjoined the chairman, Justice Idris Kutigi, to take proper charge of the conference and not to be intimidated.
He threatened to lead a walk out.
Alhaji Mustapha said: “I want to call on the chairman to please thread the path laid down by the President, which includes the pattern of voting.
“If we are pushed to the wall, we will easily walk out of this conference.
“Jingoism is not the exclusive preserve of anyone.
“Everyone here is a potential jingo.
“In the long run, if we are not careful, this conference will flop.
“God forbid.
“If it flops, the resultant effect will not be imaginable.
“If anything happens and the country disintegrates, God forbid, many of us who are shouting their heads off may not have anywhere to go.
“My people and the people of Adamawa have got somewhere to go.
“I am the Lamido of Adamawa and my kingdom extends to Cameroun.
“The larger part of my kingdom is in Cameroun.
“Part of that kingdom is today called Adamawa State in Cameroun.
“You see, if I run to that place, I will easily assimilate.”
However, his comments were greeted with the shout of no, no while some delegates called for point of order.
Owing to the stalemate in resolving the issue, the chairman announced that he would consult with a select team of 50 elder statesmen on the matter.
The team was called the Consensus Group.
Other delegates who contributed to the debate insisted on calling for memoranda from the public.
