Community denies owing AEDC N24m

Residents of Shagari Quarters, Deidei in the FCT on Thursday in Abuja denied owing the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company N24 million as energy bill used by the community.
Stephen Iyodo, the Chairman of Shagari Quarters, spoke during a sensitisation visit to the area by Chabuka Collins, the AEDC Director of Risk and Compliance.
The sensitisation centred on safety usage of electricity.
According to Iyodo, the community does not owe that amount to AEDC because the residents have not had electricity for months and cannot owe such debt.
He said the residents were prepared to assist AEDC to purchase concrete poles worth N500,000 in order to fast-track electrification of the community.
Iyodo appealed to the management of AEDC to supply the community with two more transformers to boost power generation in the community.
Collins, represented by Hajia Hauwa Muhammad, AEDC Regional Manager, North Zone, told the community that the company was prepared to ensure that there was adequate power supply in the area.
He explained that the forum was designed to sensitise the community on safety and how to protect the installations.
Collins advised the community to use electricity with caution to avoid ugly incidents.
He said: “The electricity you see around you that gives light to you is very good, but also dangerous, so do not play or tamper with it.
“In AEDC. we have trained personnel that can handle any issue that concerns electricity.”
Collins warned the community not to allow any person who was not an engineer from AEDC to tamper with their installations.
He assured the community that AEDC would rectify all the challenges they were facing, but appealed to them to pay their bills promptly.
