Popular Nigerian comedian, Julius Agwu, has withdrawn his interest to contest the 2014 gubernatorial election in Rivers State.
A statement by his Manager, Sunday Uwem, stated that Agwu stepped down after a meeting with his kinsmen from Ikwere.
The statement said: “There was a meeting between Julius Agwu and his kinsmen from Ikwere, and it was agreed that he should step down from the governorship race.
“Because the current Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, is his friend and they are both from the same area.
“They will want the position to rotate to another part of the state and Agwu has decided to listen to his people and withdraw from contesting.”
It will be recalled that the ace comedian had declared his intention to contest for the exalted seat three months ago.
Other artistes who are into politics include Bob Manuel Idokwu, Kate Henshaw Nuttal and Kenneth Okonkwo.
Others are Tony Tetuila, Kenny Saint Brown, who is also the vice president of Kennis Music Artistes, and Alexander Alapomeji, popularly called 9ice.
