Weeks after releasing a statement where she criticised Ibinabo Fiberisima’s activities as the President of Actors Guild of Nigeria, veteran actress, Clarion Chukwurah, has again taken a swipe at the leadership of the Guild as she declared her intention to vie for the its top position.
Chukwurah said she would score Ibinabo’s administration “zero” because “I cannot see what it is she has achieved”.
The veteran actress, however, promised to improve on the welfare of the members if voted into office.
According to her: “I do know that Ibinabo’s tenure would end in September.
“I intend to run for president of AGN because it is high time veterans and hard core professionals begin to pilot the affairs of the Guild.
“The first thing I intend to carry out, if voted into office, is to bring together experienced actors who are trained lawyers like Tunji Bamishigbin, Wale Adebayo, Richard Mofe-Damijo, Funke Akindele among others to sit down and look at the issue of legislation, put together a bill that will be presented to the National Assembly.
“This bill will be driven to a logical conclusion till it is understood by even a lay man.
“For instance, everybody knows that there is the need for a single body to be representing the Screen Actors of Nigeria like the Screen Actors Guild of America.
“Also, I will ensure that transparent and professional conditions by which actors can be employed in this country are put in place.
“This involves encouraging people who are interested in establishing casting agencies to come forth and register with the guild.”
But the question on everybody’s lips now is how far can Chukwurah go in the bid to achieve her ambition?
Many believe Ibinabo’s administration has been very eventful
