Governor Sullivan Chime of Enugu State on Tuesday presented the 2014 Appropriation Bill of N93.2 billion to the House of Assembly.
Tagged ‘Budget of Actualisation’, Chime said the budget was N9 billion higher than the 2013 budget of N84 billion.
The breakdown revealed that N39.3 billion, representing 42 per cent, was earmarked for recurrent expenditure, while N53.9 billion, representing 58 per cent, was for capital expenditure.
Chime said it would be the last budget which his administration would implement before leaving office in 2015.
He said: “Today, our destination is in sight and as we take a long view of 2015 transition, I am proud to say that we have done our best to uphold the terms of the social contract with our people.
“I remain committed to the work at hand till the final whistle blows.
“In year 2014, our emphasis will be to complete ongoing projects while considering new ones that are vital to the development agenda of the state in line with the four point agenda and the ‘Visit Every Community’ document.”
The Ministry of Works and Infrastructure received the highest allocation of N15. 6 billion, followed by the education sector, which received N5.78 billion.
The governor listed some of the roads to be completed in the New Year to include Ugwogo-Neke-Ikem Road, Amaetiti-Achi-Inyi-Awlaw Road, and Nguru-Ede Oballa-Eha Alumona Road.
He said contracts for the Milken Hill-Ngwo Road, Nkwo Inyi-Akpugoeze to Anambra border and Ikedimkpa- Amofia Agu-Oghu Road had been awarded.
Chime said the state government was expecting a recurrent revenue of N57 billion, with N48 billion from the Federation Account and N9 billion from Internally Generated Revenue.
He, however, reinstated the administration’s commitment toward curbing linkages in revenue generation to ensure its increase in 2014.
The governor commended the assembly for its cordial relationship and support to his administration in the past six and half years, describing the members as worthy partners.
The Speaker, Hon. Eugene Odoh, who received the bill, assured the governor of accelerated passage of the bill.
The State Executive Council members, traditional rulers as well as the general public witnessed the presentation of the bill.
