Reigning African queen and Dalian Quanjian of China star, Asisat Oshoala, battle her national teammate Francisca Ordega and South African Chrestinah Thembi Kgatlana for the trophy of the Women’s Player of the Year 2018 at the African Player of the Year Award.
Ordega replaces Cameroonian Gabrielle Aboudi Onguene, who was on the podium last year.
Oshoala is aiming at her fourth title after 2014, 2016 and 2017 to equal her compatriot Perpetua Nkwocha, who was crowned in 2004, 2005, 2010 and 2011.
The young Nigerian, born October 9, 1994 in Ikorodu, a city in Lagos, has been showing her immense talent on the international scene for four years.
After acquiring her learning techniques at FC Robo in Lagos, she signed with Rivers Angels in Port Harcourt, winning the 2014 national league.
In the same year, she was chosen as the best player of the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup before crowning her year with a double at the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Namibia, top scorer and best player, as Nigeria cruised to the title.
In 2016, she emerged top scorer yet again at the Women’s AFCON in 2016 in Cameroon, again with Nigeria finishing as champions.
After stints with Liverpool and Arsenal, both in England, the Super Falcons forward moved to China joining Dalian Quanjian.
She won the Chinese Women’s League.
Last December, she contributed to Nigeria’s winning a record-extending ninth title Women’s AFCON title.
Ordega, a strong competitor, was named the Woman of the Match for the final match against South Africa, which the Falcons won 4-2 on penalties at the 2018 AWCON in Ghana.
