APC blasts Aliyu over poor civil service remuneration

The All Progressive Congress in Niger State has blasted the Dr. Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu-led administration over the poor remuneration and low morale of the state’s civil servants.
The APC said on Tuesday in a statement signed by its Publicity Secretary, Jonathan Vatsa, that the state civil service is one of the worst in the entire northern Nigeria.
According to Vatsa: “It is on record that Niger State civil servants are list paid in the region as the government has refused to pay the approved minimum wage to civil servants, instead the Governor only merely added N10,000 to their normal salary and called it minimum wage.
“Governor Aliyu, though a seasoned civil servant who rose to the position of a permanent secretary in the federal civil has denied civil servants in the state their entitlements which include, leave grants, promotions and other benefits in the name of saving cost.
“Civil servants in the Niger state have remained at the same grade level since 2009 with no promotion and they have been denied their annual leave grants since inception of this administration.”
Vatsa said that the situation with the civil servants at the local government level could be better imagine than experienced as over 30 per cent of them had their names removed from the pay roll of the government in the name of staff auditing.
The APC spokesman further stated that despite the frustration of the civil servants in the state, the administration of Aliyu has found it difficult to pay salaries if not for the intervention of SURE-P in the state, which contributes well over N230 million every month to argument the salary.
He said: “SURE-P has taken over the completion of all abandoned projects by the government in the state and all government functions and activities of government are now being financed by the SURE-P and the Ministry for local government.
“It is now a public knowledge that about 30% of the state monthly allocation is being used to service the N36billion loan which the administration called bond and other numerous loans, making the state the most indebted states in the entire northern Nigeria today.”
