President Goodluck Jonathan has been endorsed by the Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere, for a second term in office.
Afenifere endorsed Jonathan on Tuesday after a meeting between the group and Jonathan at the residence of its leader, Pa Reuben Fasonranti, in Akure, Ondo State.
Speaking with reporters, Jonathan, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party for the election, said he was at Fasoranti’s residence to pay homage to the Afenifere leader.
Also speaking after the meeting, the Ondo State Governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, said: “This is the first time Afenifere will be endorsing any President.”
The spokesperson of Afenifere, Yinka Odumakin, said after the meeting: “Afenifere supports the President’s reelection because he had the courage to convoke the national conference and we hope that he will implement the report.
“The President expressed the commitment that he will adopt the report within 12 months of returning to office.”
