The Islamic Movement in Nigeria has officially confirmed three persons dead in the clash between its members and the Nigerian Army.
Though the movement said it was a case of unprovoked attack, the Nigerian Army said the sect members attempted to murder the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai.
Members of the sect, led by Sheikh Ibrahim Zakzaky, initially gave an outlandish figure of 50 dead to The Eagle Online while the clash was on.
The Nigerian Army said the attack on Buratai was unprovoked and would not allow such again.
