The National Orientation Agency has announced the award of its Citizen Responsibility Recognition Award to former Head of State, Abdulsalam Abubakar, former CommonWealth Secretary General, Emeka Anyaoku, and others in the National Peace Council for their effort to safeguard peace before, during and after the 2015 general election.
The Director General of the Agency, Mike Omeri, said nine groups, both local and international, have met the Agency’s requirement for the award.
Omeri noted that they all played vital roles in the peaceful conduct of the election.
Others on the list included the Economic Community of West African States, the European Union Commission, Defence Headquarters United Nations Development Programme Democratic Governance for Development, Nigeria Stability and Reconciliation Programme, Chief Felicia Sani and the National Association of Market Men and Women, Joy Onyeso who is National Coordinator of Nigeria Women Situation Room.
Omeri said individuals and organisations devised strategies for ensuring peace across the country ,urging other Nigerians to emulate them in the task of building the nation.
The Citizen’s Responsibility Recognition Award is an initiative of NOA to identify and recognise Nigerians in all spheres of human endeavour who through their routine work exemplify the spirit of honesty and hard work which form some of the core values of Nigeria.
The award has so far being given to fifteen deserving Nigerians over the three year period of its establishment.
