Another effort aimed at stopping a former Minister of State for Defence, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, from being confirmed as a Minister has emerged.
Obanikoro has been accused of using different dates on two different international passports.
The passports are those of Nigeria and the United States of America.
He was accused of using 1960 on one and 1954 on the other.
Senate sources said on his Nigerian international passport, he was born in 1954, while that of the United States of America bore 1960 as his birth date.
The contention of Obanikoro’s traducers is that in the immigration law, it is illegal to change date and place of birth.
The source also alleged that Obanikoro was yet to give any cogent reason why he refused to participate in mandatory National Youth Service Corps scheme meant for graduates.
Also, senators elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, who briefed newsmen, said the existing rules of the Senate is against the former Minister because the three senators from his state, Lagos, are against him.
Their contention is that when senators from your state are against you, the rules of the Senate says the nominee will not be confirmed.
This was even as APC senators insisted that Obanikoro is not qualified to be screened and confirmed as Minister since there is an existing litigation against him on his eligibility as a Minister.
