Governor to Appointees: Follow me to APC or resign

Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State told his commissioners and other political appointees to move with him from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) or resign from their positions.

The governor, according to available information, made it clear that it was no longer news that he had made up his mind to defect to the APC from PDP.

“Anybody who claims they are not aware of my intention to leave the PDP is still living in the 18th century,” Eno stated.

The governor, who didn’t mince words when he issued the directive, made this known at the ongoing State Executive Council meeting in Uyo, the state capital, on Thursday.

According to sources, Governor Eno said he has admired President Bola Tinubu from a distance and would like to align with him.

He warned his appointees that they either follow him or step aside as he has nothing to negotiate with them.

He was quoted as having said at the retreat: “Apart from elected officials like House of Assembly members and local government chairmen, I have nothing to negotiate with you.

“Let me tell you, anybody who believes that when I leave the PDP they will use the party structure to fight me is lying because I will still control the PDP structure.”

Our Correspondent gathered from sources close to Government House that Governor Eno would likely jettison the PDP on June 6, 2025, bringing to an end more than 25 years of the party being in power in Akwa Ibom State.
