Despite the Super Eagles pulsating 2-1 victory over the desperate Walyas Albex of Ethiopia, the Eagles Chief Coach, Stephen Keshi, insisted that the team is not ready for the Africa Nations
Championship yet.
The Eagles had an impressive first half performance in the match decided at the main bowl of the Abuja National Stadium on Saturday.
The two goals, which were scored in the first half of the match, came through the foot of Enyimba of Aba striker, Ifeanyi Ede, in the seventh minute, while Uzochukwu Ugonna got the second in the 26th minute.
The Ethiopian team, which paraded several of the players that played against the A-Team Super Eagles during the World Cup qualifier and also at the Nations cup in South Africa, did not show much of the stuff that they displayed during the two championships as the Super Eagles players generally controlled the ball, especially in the first half.
An unimpressed Keshi confessed after the match that he has no team yet to prosecute a successful CHAN competition for Nigeria in South Africa.
He said: “I know there is still more work to be done in the team.
“And I continue to maintain that I still do not have a team because it is not possible to build a team for a major tournament for three weeks.
“Not even Capaello or Wenger can do that.
“But I have to praise my boys for beating this team.
“This is a team that has been together for he past six years.
“So, the boys did well, though they sort of got tired in the second half but they really did their best and I feel they will get better by the time the competition begins.”
