The Peoples Democratic Party in Niger State has commended the peace moves by elders of the party, particularly Chief Olusegun Obasanjo and retired General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, describing them as “true elders of the country”.
In a statement by the Public Relations Officer of the party in the state, Alhaji Hassan Saba, the PDP called for quick resolution of the crisis that has hit the party since the Special National Convention held at the Eagle Square in Abuja.
According to the statement: “We really commend our elders who stepped in to resolve the internal crisis, especially Generals Olusegun Obasanjo and Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida. We believe that resolution of the dispute will enable the party focus on other activities especially the 2015 general elections.
“The deliberation at the stakeholders’ meeting was very fruitful with each stakeholder proffering the way forward for the resolution of the crisis.
“All parties to the dispute are encouraged to accept the decision of the peace meeting not to make comments on the crisis publicly until the October 7 date when another meeting will be held. And we believe that the meeting will come to a final decision and chart the way forward for the party.”
Saba said that Governor Babangida Aliyu of Niger State briefed the stakeholders on the major decisions taken at the peace meeting held with President Goodluck Jonathan, the G-7 governors and others governors of the party.
The statement said Aliyu commended the leadership of the party in the state for not allowing the crisis to affect its day-to-day running, adding: “This is an indication that we are all working together as one family.”
Some of the stakeholders at the meeting were the Chairman of the party in the state, Dr. Abdulrahaman Enagi; the Deputy Chairman, Barrister Tanko Beji; and elected and appointed public officials.
