The Northern States Governors Forum on Thursday expressed shock and sadness over the death of the former Minister of Works, Major General Mamman Kontagora (rtd).
A statement issued in Minna by Malam Danladi Ndayebo, Chief Press Secretary to the forum’s Chairman and Niger State Governor, Dr. Babangida Aliyu, described the late general as a patriot who died in the service of his fatherland.
According to the statement, the former minister had lived an exemplary and purposeful life, and had recorded remarkable achievements as a military officer, administrator, community leader and dedicated family man.
“He was an uncommon statesman, a dependable ally, a devout Muslim, a great military officer, a highly disciplined gentleman and a respected mentor of his subordinate officers,” the statement added.
The forum then prayed God to grant the soul of the deceased eternal rest and to give his family the fortitude to bear the loss.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Kontagora, who was born on April 20, 1944, died on Wednesday night.
The deceased hailed from Kontagora in Niger State and was also former minister of the Federal Capital Territory and Sole Administrator, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.
Kontagora was retired from military service by the military government of General Abdulsalami Abubakar.
