Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State has described as day dreaming the alleged plot by opposition elements in the State to rig the 2019 general election.
There have been growing rumours in the State orchestrated by the major opposition All Progressives Congress that it would employ “federal might” to thwart the outcome of the election against the Peoples Democratic Party.
Umahi while speaking on Tuesday during the Ehugbo cultural festival held at Government College, Afikpo in Afikpo North Local Government Area of the State, flayed the opposition and advised them never to contemplate such impossibility.
He noted that Ebony people would not be deceived by such cheap propaganda as they were prepared to defend their votes at all cost.
Umahi observed that the opposition candidates in the state lack both the verbal and performance credibility to win the people’s support, adding that most of them had failed in proper utilization of their present mandate for the betterment of their zones.
He appreciated the spirit of gratitude displayed by Afikpo people, pledging to make the area the tourist hub of the State.
He noted that plans have reached advanced stages towards commencing the construction of a Bridge across Ndibe beach to Cross River State and assured that the massive road construction and street lighting in Afikpo would receive further boost.
Umahi urged the people to obtain and arm themselves jealously with their Permanent Voter Cards in order to guarantee the continuation of a responsive government in 2019 and called on them to support all the PDP aspirants.
Umahi said: “I want to appeal to you, village by village, go and get your PVC.
“The only way to sustain this is for all of you to come out, get your PVC and demonstrate your power on that day.
“If anybody tells you that they would rewrite the result, tell them they are dreamers.
“The only vote they will get are the invalid votes.
“So I want you to return all our PDP candidates
“Do not worry about cockroaches
“Do not worry about people that were given opportunities in Abuja and they did roads and the roads, even though it is in their communities, failed on their heads.
“Do not worry about those who cannot even address themselves in the public.
“Campaign will soon come and let us see how they will talk.
“God is sufficient for us and our confidence is in Him and not in the Centre, not in any man.
“If you must rig the election, God will take your life before the day.
“No matter the powers, God cannot be mocked.
“No man can reverse what God has started in this State.
“No one will rewrite the result in Ebonyi State.
“Let him who contends tell Ebonyians what he has done for the State.
“I will make Afikpo a tourist centre in the State.”
The Chairman of the event, Chief Ifeanyi Ewa, and other prominent members of the community who spoke during the event noted that Umahi has remained the only governor since the creation of the State who brought life-touching developmental projects to Afikpo.
In an emotion laden voice, the Traditional ruler of Ohaisu autonomous community, Ezeogo Ewa Elechi, described Umahi as a goal getter and a consummate leader who has brought uniformity in development of the State.
They explained that the event was organized to showcase the rich cultural heritage of the Ehugbo people and as a token of appreciation for all that the Governor had done for the people.
The cultural event featured traditional wresting, masquerading and assorted dances.
A motion was also passed affirming Umahi as their sole governorship candidate in the state for the 2019 poll.
