Road crashes claim nine, injure 18 in Zamfara

No fewer than nine persons were confirmed dead and 18 critically injured in two separate road accidents along Gusau-Sokoto Highway in Zamfara State.
A survivor of the accident, Malam Shehu Garba, told the News Agency of Nigeria at Talata Mafara on Thursday that the accidents occurred on Tuesday evening.
Garba said a 15-seater bus driver lost control and collided with a tanker, loaded with fuel, resulting in the deaths of nine passengers on the spot.
He said the tanker skidded off the road and collided with the 15-seater bus.
Garba said that six other passengers sustained various degrees of injury.
NAN reports that 12 persons sustained injuries but no life was lost in the second incident which occurred the same evening along Talata Mafara-Gusau Road.
An eyewitness told NAN that the accident involved a Gulf Volkswagen passenger car and a Peugeot 505 station wagon commercial vehicle.
Malam Garba Lawal, the Public Relations Officer of the Zamfara State Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps, confirmed the incidents, saying the injured had been admitted at Talata Mafara General Hospital.
Lawal said some of the victims were referred to Usmanu Danfodiyo Teaching Hospital, Sokoto, for treatment.
