Itohan Ogbeide, former Chairman of Ikpoba Okha Local Government Area of Edo and All Progressives Congress stalwart, on Thursday defected to Peoples Democratic Party with her followers.
Ogbeide, who is also former Chairman of Association of Local Governments of Nigeria in the state, said at PDP’s Secretariat in Benin, that she had returned to the party she left more than 10 years ago.
According to her, I have returned to the PDP because I want to remain active in politics.
She said that she would help PDP to regain power in the state and country, adding that she was moved to return to the party after it publicly apologised to Nigerians.
Ogbeide pointed out that for any person or party to apologise publicly was a sign of “remorse’’, and expressed optimism that the PDP would wrest power from ruling APC in 2019.
She said that she was convinced that PDP would tackle the problems of insecurity and hardship better.
Ogbeide stated that she was an active member of APC and worked actively to ensure that it remained in power in the state.
She, however, expressed sadness that the party had abandoned those who worked for it.
Receiving her and followers, Chairman of PDP in the state, Chief Dan Orbih, said that the party was happy to receive them.
He said that no persecution, harassment or intimidation could change the inevitable change of government in 2019.
The chairman announced that PDP was ready to make “supreme sacrifice’’ to save democracy in the country as well as the people from hardship.
He underscored the need for government at all levels to protect people from killer-herdsmen, and called on registered voters to collect their Permanent Voter Cards to vote in 2019.
