49 persons killed in 113 road accidents in Niger – FRSC

Forty-nine persons were killed in 113 road accidents that occurred in Niger, in the first quarter of 2018, according to Garba Yusuf, FRSC Sector Commander in the state.
Yusuf told the News Agency of Nigeria on Thursday in Minna that the casualty figures were “frightening” when compared with those of 2017.
According to him, 49 persons were killed in 463 road accidents in 2017.
He said: “This year, we have already hit that figure in the first quarter. It means we must do more to curb the incidences.”
Yusuf said that the FRSC was taking extra measures to force drivers to adhere to traffic rules and regulations.
Yusuf said: “We are partnering with officials of the National Union of Road Transport Workers to check incidences of overloading and dangerous driving.
“We have also adopted measures to ensure that only qualified persons are allowed to drive.
“We have, similarly, devised ways to check vehicles to ensure that only those in perfect conditions are allowed to ply the roads.”
