The representative Niger East Senatorial District, Barrister David Umaru, on Monday declared to run for a second term for the zone’s senatorial seat.
This followed a standstill as stakeholders and supporters of the ruling All Progressives Congress in their thousands thronged the major highways in Minna to show support for his continuity come 2019.
The thousands of party supporters and residents who thronged out in large numbers pledged their support for the senator.
Some of the placards read: No vacancy in Zone B, Niger East is for Umaru, We are with You, Senator Umaru is a true politician.
Posters carrying supporters from the nine LGAS in the zone, which are Suleja, Gurara, Paikoro, Shiroro, Munya, Chanchaga, Bosso, Rafin and Tafa local government areas of the state also lined the major road at various points to welcomed and ushered the lawmaker to the UK Bello Arts Theatre, Minna, where he declared his intention for a second term.
Majority of the supporters while acknowledging the achievements and giant strides recorded by Umaru, pledged their full support for him as he seeks for re-election in 2019.
While speaking to journalists, Senator Umaru reiterated his commitment to the All Progressive Congress, debunking the rumour that he had plan to defect from the party.
He emphasised that he remained a bonafide and committed member of the APC and is in full support of re-electing President Muhammadu Buhari in 2019.
He disclosed: “During my first tenure, I sunk 150 boreholes in all wards, distributed 30 transformers, constructed 50 kilometres road that linked 150 villages in the zone.
“As part of my contribution to education, 77 students are currently benefiting from scholarship at the university, while 53 students are in Unity Schools across the country enjoying full scholarships.”
Umaru also called on the supporters to ensure that they acquire their Permanent Voter Cards to enable them vote in the upcoming elections.
He further appealed to the people to remain patient as the government is doing its best to ensure development in all sectors.
