Kano Pillars Football Club on Sunday beat visiting Akwa United FC 1-0 in a Week 37 match of the 2014/2015 Nigeria Professional Football League.
In the match played at the Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano, first half play was entertaining and lively, with both sides wasting many goal-scoring chances.
Kano Pillars’ captain, Rabiu Ali, however scored the only goal of the game in the 62nd minute through a penalty kick to increase his season’s league goals tally to eight.
Several efforts by the visitors to equalise were abortive, as Kano Pillars defended tenaciously.
Speaking after the game, Pillars’ coach, Baba Ganaru, commended his players for their brilliant performance.
Ganaru said: “I am pleased with the performance of the boys in general and I also commend Akwa United players for their performance.”
With one match remaining in the season, Enyimba of Aba has already emerged as the winner.
This followed Sunday’s 0-0 result against Warri Wolves in Aba.
