Barring any last minute change of mind, Dr. Abduljhalil Tafawa Balewa, son of Nigeria’s first Prime Minister, late Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, will on Tuesdaypick the Peoples Democratic Party’s presidential nomination form/expression of interest in Abuja.
Sources close to Dr. Balewa confirmed to The Eagle Online on Monday in Abuja that necessary arrangements have been finalised for him to pick the form at the PDP national secretariat, Wadata House, Wuse, Abuja.
Some of his supporters were said to have arrived the nation’s capital for that purpose.
It is however not clear if the party would sell the form to Balewa.
Already, the various organs of the ruling PDP have endorsed the President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, as the party’s candidate for the 2015 presidential election.
The governors elected on the platform of the party have similarly endorsed Jonathan.
No other person has officially indicated interest in contesting for the PDP presidential ticket ahead of the next year’s general elections.
If Dr. Balewa succeeds in getting the form, he would be the first to contest for the ticket with the President at the party’s primary.
Jonathan has already indicated his interest to run for the election next year.
Findings by The Eagle Online showed that Dr. Balewa has, for sometime now, been perfecting his strategies to give Dr. Jonathan a good fight for the ticket.
