Former Super Eagles’ striker, Victor Agali, has joined the growing list of Nigerian football followers calling for the recall of Norwich City’s new loan signing, Joseph Yobo, to the national team ahead of the Brazil 2014 FIFA World Cup.
The Tunisia 2004 Nations Cup bronze medalist made this observation in an exclusive chat with The Eagle Online on Tuesday.
Agali said the ex-Everton defender is not yet a spent force in the game.
He said: “I’m convinced enough about the personnel in the Eagles’ central defence. I think we need to mix the men and the boys to present a solid team in Brazil.
“I believe Yobo has what it takes to fill this void. He is experienced and this will be a plus for as a country.
“Yobo as the leader also understands the team’s dynamism and he is going to serve as a guide for the younger ones when the going gets though.
“Personally, I don’t like making claims for any player but I think there is urgent need to reshuffle our central defence before the World Cup kicks off in Brazil.”
Agali once played for Schalke 04.
Agali, who is back in the country after quitting the game in China, urged the Super Eagles to dismiss the sentiment that was built around their World Cup opponents, saying the African Champions should take each game as it comes.
His words: “I have heard people talk so much about Argentina with Messi (Lionel) and Bosnia Herzegovina with Edwin Dzeko in their folds. But we have forgotten that we equally have some deadly players like Emenike (Emmanuel) and Mikel Obi in our team too.
“So, our opponents are much conscious about us also and we can have a good tournament if we prepare very well.”
