There was heavy presence of security personnel in and around the Eagle Square, venue of the presidential inauguration on Friday.
Correspondents of the News Agency of Nigeria, who went round the square and parts of the city centre, also observed some checkpoints manned by police and military personnel.
NAN also reports that security in the territory was complemented by aerial surveillance as police and air force helicopters flew around venue of the inauguration and other parts of the city.
ASP Anjuguri Manzah, spokesman for the police in the territory, said all was peaceful but warned uninvited persons to steer away from the venue of the ceremony.
All roads leading to the Eagle Square were closed to vehicular traffic following the order of the Inspector-General of Police, Solomon Arase.
However, huge crowds of party supporters and other Nigerians, who could not gain access to the venue of the inauguration, were seen gathered at about 100 metres away, chanting party slogan.
NAN also reports that traffic in the city was light as most residents stayed indoors to watch the ceremony on television and listen on the radio.
