Customs Area Controller for Ogun I Command, Idiroko, Mohammed Shuaibu, on Wednesday, charged the 60 newly promoted officers of the agency to see their promotion as a motivation to greater service.
Shuaibu said the officers must step up the fight against smugglers and all forms of economic sabotaging and criminal acts that constitute a threat to the security of nation’s border.
He emphasised that their promotion should be seen as a greater call to serve the nation and must therefore be more dedicated to upholding the core mandates of the NCS spanning revenue generation, anti-smuggling operations, and trade facilitation all of which are critical to the economic growth and security of the nation.
The Controller disclosed this on Wednesday during the decoration of the officers with their new ranks held at its Idiroko Command office.

He said “As you wear your new ranks today, remember that every stripe, badge, and insignia signifies responsibility and leadership.
“It is a symbol of authority and a call to duty to serve Nigeria with integrity, courage, and selflessness.
“The expectations of the Service, the nation, and the public are now even higher.
“You are not just representatives of the Nigeria Customs Service; you are role models for your colleagues, subordinates, and the communities we serve.
“Let your conduct always reflect the core values of the Service: integrity, diligence, and patriotism.
“Be exemplary leaders. Leadership is not about ranks alone but about influence, guidance, and the ability to inspire others to excel. Lead by example and motivate your colleagues.”
Shuaibu said that the beneficiaries of the promotion exercise were not just handpicked but were actually found worthy of the deserved elevation having proved to be highly dedicated, professional, and highly industrious adding value to the operations of the Customs Service.
Congratulating the newly promoted officers, the Controller urged them to embrace continuous learning because promotion comes with new challenges, and that staying ahead requires the officers to equip themselves with the knowledge, skills, and tools necessary to excel in their new roles.
Shuaibu also appreciated the sacrifices of the command’s operatives saying that their collective efforts and teamwork have contributed to the success story recorded so far both in revenue generation and the onslaught against smugglers and other criminal acts in and around the country’s borders in the state.
The Controller has equally lauded the favourable disposition of the Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adeniyi to the welfare and career progression of the officers of the agency saying that such leadership support remains a morale booster for the officers.
