The Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has said his administration is doing the will of God by attending to the welfare of Lagosians.
Sanwo-Olu, who said this on Friday in Lagos, also acknowledged that God is the reason for the greatness of the state.
He said this at the opening ceremony of the first session of the 9th Synod of the Diocese of Lagos West of the Church of Nigeria Anglican Communion.
The event took place at the Archbishop Vining Memorial Cathedral Church in Ikeja.
The governor was represented at the event by the Secretary to the State Government, Abimbola Salu-Hundeyin.
Also present at the event was a former Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Adejoke Adefulire-Orelope, and a host of dignitaries, including past bishops and priests from the other dioceses of the church.
Sanwo-Olu said: “You will agree with me that God is helping us and with the prayers of the faithful in carrying out the THEMES PLUS Agenda.
“We as a government are fulfilling the scriptures because the THEMES PLUS Developmental agenda is an all-encompassing care and comfort agenda for the citizens’ welfare and better living for all.”
While showcasing some of the achievements of his administration, including the infrastructural development in the state, he said they have been made possible because of prayers.
He said: “I must reiterate here that our administration’s great achievements are hinged on the prayers of the faithful, and our close relationship with the Church has been pivotal to our success story.
“Lagos State today is the State of Excellence because HIS Excellency Our Father in Heaven has made it so.”
Sanwo-Olu promised that the state would continue to put the welfare of the people as a priority in the running of the state.
The governor said: “On our part as a government, we are firmly committed to the implementation of our administration’s developmental Agenda acronymed T.H.E.M.E.S + agenda
“Each pillar represents our special focus on the needs of all of us who are the citizens and residents of this State of Excellence.”
Sanwo-Olu said the theme of the Synod, which is: “Fight a good fight of faith,” is a call for “us to practice the principle of being our brother’s keeper, ensuring the simple needs of daily living are not kept out of the reach of the common man.
“We must back up our confession of faith with good and honest conduct and let our lives be a true reflection of our Lord Jesus Christ’s teachings; focusing on His imminent return to motivate us to godly living.”

He said further that when believers fight to overcome vices, “our state, nation, and the world will be better because it would enable us to channel our energy towards positively contributing to other lives.
“This act of support and kindness can win souls and make disciples of our fellow community members.”
He commended the Bishop of the Diocese, Rt. Rev. Olusola Odedeji, for the impact he has made in the diocese since he assumed office, while also urging him and Christians in the state to continue to lift the state in prayers.
