Senator Aliyu Wamakko (APC-Sokoto North) on Sunday in Sokoto dedicated his victory at Saturday’s supplementary election to the electorates.

The Independent National Electoral Commission declared the two-term senator as winner of Saturday’s supplementary poll.

This returns him to the Senate for a third term.

Wamakko, a former Governor of Sokoto State, polled 141,448 votes to defeat the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Alhaji Munir Dan’Iya, who scored 118,445 votes.

Speaking with newsmen, Wamakko appreciated the people of the state, particularly All Progressives Congress supporters, for their commitment during the three elections that took place.

He said: “Our party’s victory is an indication of the people’s will.

“I want to assure the entire good people of Sokoto State that with their support and prayers, we will achieve our promises of good governance.

“APC is the party recognised by the people of Sokoto State and Nigeria.

“As such, we want to assure you that your sacrifices and show of love will never be compromised.”

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that with the election results declared by INEC on Sunday, the APC won the governorship seat and 20 seats out of the 30 seats in the House of Assembly.

It also won two senatorial seats and eight seats out of 11 House of Representatives seats.

The ruling PDP in the state won 10 House of Assembly seats, one senatorial seat and three House of Representatives seats.
