In what has been categorised as a diversionary attack, two female suicide bombers were killed by terrorists in Maiduguri, Borno State on Wednesday.
The female suicide bombers, the Defence Headquarters said, had their bombs detonated by terrorists as they made to attack Maiduguri.
However, troops of the Nigerian Army quickly routed the attackers.
The aim of the attack was said to be the distraction of troops from the ongoing operation in Sambisa forest.
It was believed to have been carried out by those escaping from the terrorists locations that have been routed or destroyed.
The Director Defence Information, Major General Chris Olukolade, confirmed the incident.
Olukolade stated that normalcy has been restored as the troops conduct mopping up of the area, while the offensive on all terrorists forest locations continue.
