The National Universities Commission says it is currently processing applications for 303 new private universities to cater for the demand of tertiary education in the country.

The National Universities Commission has approved the take-off of the Bayelsa Medical University, the third University in the state and number 48 state-owned university in the country.
The National Universities Commission has granted full accreditation to not fewer than 24 academic programmes of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso, Oyo State.
The VC, who made the disclosure in an interview with newsmen, said students who intend gaining admission into the university are thoroughly screened before being admitted.

A total of 196 students have so far been accepted into the University, while 76 applications are pending
The Senior Special Assistant to Vice President Yemi Osinbajo on Media and Publicity, Laolu Akande, gave the indication in a release issued on Wednesday
“A total of 17 programmes were accredited by the commission two years ago; we are now prepared for NUC with additional 15 programmes.”
Rasheed, who was represented by Rahmon Yusuf, the Director of Research, Information and Technology of the commission, said this at a stakeholders workshop with Vice-Chancellors of Specialised Universities of Agriculture in Abuja on Wednesday
