The Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai, has flagged off Exercise AYEM AKPATUMA II in Takum, Taraba with a charge on troops to consolidate on the gains recorded during the first exercise in the state.

The Director, Defence Information, Brig.-Gen. John Agim, announced the figure, while giving update on the just- concluded exercise which also covered Nasarawa, Niger and Kogi states.
The army Spokesman, Brig.-Gen Texas Chukwu, explained in a statement on Monday in Abuja, that the extension became necessary to further consolidate on the gains achieved so far in the state.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the soldiers were on operation ‘Ayem Akpatuma’ when they were ambushed and killed by the bandits.
Bello made the pledge after he paid a facility visit to the 480 troops of 91 Brigade Headquarters of the Nigerian Army deployed in the ongoing Operation “AYEM AKPATUMA” (CAT RACE) at Irepeni along Abuja-Lokoja- Okene road.
Yusuf also said that troops during the patrol intervened in a violent clash between hunters and herdsmen in Obi Local Government following a distress call.
The exercise, according to Maj.-Gen. David Ahmadu, the Chief of Training and Operations, will commence on February 15 and end on March 31.
