Labour Party’s Chief Great Ogboru or the All Progressives Congress governorship candidate, Chief O’tega Emerhor, may soon emerge as the sole candidate of the Urhobo Political Union in the forthcoming governorship election in Delta State.
The duo of Ogboru and Emerhor are currently enmeshed in a battle of wits over who will be the union’s sole candidate for Delta Central Senatorial District next year.
Besides that, the UPU is the apex decision making body of the Urhobo ethnic nationality.
It is strongly against a Delta North Senatorial District man succeeding Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan in 2015.
The body is therefore strategizing on possible ways of mustering support for a popular Urhobo man, irrespective of his or her political affiliation, to battle Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, a Delta North Senatorial District man, who beat Chief David Edevbie, an Urhobo man, to emerge as the Peoples Democratic Party governorship flag bearer in the state.
The Eagle Online gathered on Sunday in Mosogar, Ethiope West Local Government Area of the state, that the UPU was yet to recover from the poor performance of Edevbie in the PDP governorship primaries.
The failure of Edevbie has, therefore, thrown up Ogboru’s and Emerhor’s bid in the state chapter of the Labour Party and the All Progressives Congress.
Ogboru, popularly known as the People’s General, during his consultative visit to top ranking UPU chieftains in Mosogar on Sunday, prayed the body to swiftly repose its confidence in him by adopting him and leave him to take PDP’s Senator Okowa to the cleaners.
He vowed not to only tear PDP’s “sinister umbrella” apart, but “end the party’s 15 years of barrenness” in the Delta State if he is adopted by the body.
Meanwhile, APC’s Emerhor has stepped up for the same request, having seen the platform as a veritable means of coasting to victory next year.
Ogboru is currently parading the highest record of election disputation in Nigeria, having dragged the former Governor of the state, Chief James Ibori, to court for three years and petitioned Governor Uduaghan’s election almost throughout his eight years tenure.
He said besides his desire to serve the people of the state, the corporate interest of the Urhobos would be held sacrosanct.
