Senate to subject alleged lopsided police promotion to public scrutiny

The Senate has considered to subject the alleged lopsidedness ‎in police promotion to public scrutiny to know whether the promotion is lopsided or not.
A police officer had in an interview with a foreign radio station alleged that the Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase, was favouring a section of the country in the promotion.
But in an interview, the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Police Affairs, Senator Abu Ibrahim, said Arase submitted the list of the police promotion under his watch to the Committee.
In Ibrahim’s words: “The IGP submitted the list yesterday and we are going to meet on Tuesday in order to scrutinise it, to know whether there is lopsidedness or not.”
He said the list of the promotion would be read in public in order to enable Nigeria to have critical loot of it.
He said: “We now have facts and figures of the promotion and we are going to make it available to the public.”
In a related development, the Chairman of Senate Committee on Police Affairs faulted the N19 billion allocation to the Police out of the N53 billion proposal sent to the Ministry of Interior, lamenting that the allocation was too low for any meaningful transformation to take place in the Nigeria Police.
