The Senate on Wednesday directed the Central Bank of Nigeria, Federal Inland Revenue Service, Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation and 34 other agencies to submit their budget within one week for consideration.
The Senate’s resolution followed point of order raised by the Leader of Senate, Senator Ahman Lawan, who called the attention of the lawmakers to the refusal of affected agencies to submit their budget for consideration.
The Senate Leader while moving the motion explained the need for the agencies to submit their budgets to the the Red Chamber embarks on their annual recess.
Also, the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, urged the affected agencies to quickly comply with the Fiscal Responsibility Act by submitting their budget for consideration to the National Assembly.
In his own contribution, the Chairman, Senate Committee on Marine Transport, Senator Sani Yerima, told the federal lawmakers that the agencies under his committee have submitted theirs but waiting to harmonize the budget with House of Representatives
In his remarks, the Senate President, Senator Bukola Saraki, said their intention was to pass the agencies budget before the annual recess.
According to Saraki, the budget submission by these agencies must be done within one week.
The agencies expected to submit their budget for the National Assembly’s consideration include Nigerian Ports Authority, Securities and Exchange Commission, National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, Bureau of Public Enterprises, National Maritime Authority and Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria.
