The National Vice Chairman, South West, of the Peoples Democratic Party, Chief Segun Oni, has described the admission of MTN that the call-logs presented to the National Judicial Council Probe Panel on allegations of unethical behaviours against the suspended President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Isa Ayo Salami, originated from the company as the triumph of truth over falsehood.
Oni said “we are now being vindicated and truth has emerged.”
Oni, who said he was on a crusade to save the judiciary in Nigeria from an imminent collapse, added: “I am confident that at the end, truth, which we are fighting to uphold, will prevail as it has happened now that MTN has refuted the lies that it told before that NJC probe panel.
“The Call Data Records (CDR) on telephone numbers belonging to Justice Salami and others, which were obtained from the Police at Area G Command Headquarters, Ogba, Lagos, were rejected by the Justice Umaru Abdullahi-led probe when MTN representative disowned the call logs before the panel. MTN also allegedly presented incomplete data records to the National Security Adviser (NSA) office thereby concealing the identity of callers to the Justices.
“The panel subsequently used the call data obtained by the office of the NSA, which covered only three months and to absolve Salami and other jurists, saying that the data were not comprehensive enough to indict them for unethical communications with parties in Osun and Ekiti governorship appeals.”
However, MTN in it’s statement of defence to the suit filed by Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola and the PDP, Osun and Ekiti States chapters, acknowledged that the call logs from the Nigeria Police Area G Command Headquarters, Ogba, which Oni and Oyinlola presented to the panel as exhibit and rejected by the panel, were from it.
Reacting to the development, Oni said in a statement issued by his Media Aide, Mr. Lere Olayinka, that he believed MTN would tell the court and Nigerians why the call data records it released to the security agencies at the instance of the NJC contained only originating components, with the terminating components missing.
Oni said: “MTN must also tell Nigerians at what time in the history of Lagos State that a certain Tunde Folawiyo, on whose name telephone number 08034240000 was registered, was a governor of the state.
“On this matter, we won’t relent until the whole truth is revealed because this is not about myself, but the future of Nigeria and its people.”
