The Sa-peyi of Garki, His Royal Highness Alhaji Usman Nga-Kupi, and his Council of Chiefs on Wednesday commended the Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory, Oloye Olajumoke Akinjide, for her genuine and transparent efforts in resolving the problems associated with the Apo Resettlement Scheme.
The commendation was contained in a letter signed by the Sakin Pada Garki, Jacob Garki, who is the District Head of Garki; Magajin Garki/President of Garki Youth Association, Joel Yezegbe; Youth Leader, Garki Hausa, Abdulwahab Musa; Daniel Vundabo, representing Apo Community; and Yohanna Gade, representing Akpanjenya Community.
The Council of Chiefs and Garki indigenes, according to the letter, have agreed to be part of the Ministerial Committee on the Implementation of Apo Resettlement Scheme, which was inaugurated by the FCT Minister of State on February 14, 2013.
In the letter to the Minister, the indigenes acknowledged receipt of the report of the committee set up by Akinjide to resolve all challenges affecting the Apo Resettlement Scheme.
The letter said in part: “The Garki Gbagyi, Garki Hausa, Akpanjenya and Apo Communities congratulate the Minister for a job well done. The Honourable Minister inaugurated a Committee to resolve all issues plaguing the Apo Resettlement scheme, which did an excellent job and submitted its Report in December 2012.
“After we have gone through the report, we are convinced that the Honourable Minister of State for FCT, Oloye Olajumoke Akinjide, because of her outstanding qualities in handling the resettlement and compensation matter, is one Minister among many who have taken bold steps to correct all the wrongs by the desk officers of the Department of Resettlement and Compensation since its inception.”
They assured the minister of the support and cooperation of the four communities in the development of the FCT and the Area Councils in line with the Administration’s master-plan for Abuja.
“The Communities and Stakeholders are presently studying the report to enable us come up with summary of our input by March 5, 2013,” they added.
Akinjide had on February 14, 2013, reiterated the commitment of the FCT Administration in proffering a lasting solution to the problems that have hindered the success of this scheme.
“The setting up of the implementation committee has become imperative for the FCT Administration to realise its dream of a functional and befitting cityscape in line with the master plan provisions of Abuja,” she noted.
The Implementation Committee on Apo Resettlement Scheme is chaired by the Director of Admin and Finance, Area Council Services Secretariat, Alhaji Yusuf Tsaiyabu, with the Special Assistant to the Minister of State on Resettlement, Benedict Ogenyi, serving as secretary of the committee.
