The Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission says it will embark on a nationwide sensitisation tour to garner support for the ongoing review of the country’s current revenue allocation formula.
In a statement, Ibrahim Mohammed, the commission’s Head of Public Relations, said the decision to embark on the tour was made known by the Chairman, Elias Mbam, on Tuesday in Abuja while briefing the staff of the commission.
Mbam, who said that the sensitisation would take place between July 3 and July 17, added that it was aimed at enlightening stakeholders and the public on the need to participate and make relevant contributions in the review of the allocation.
The statement said: “This will enable the commission to come up with a just, fair, equitable and acceptable revenue allocation formula for the country.”
The statement also quoted Mbam as saying that some members of the commission were expected to go to their respective states to hold interactive meetings within one week.
The statement added: “It is expected that respective committees will be raised to discuss the issue with state executives, judicial and legislative officials, local government officials, civil society groups and the public.”
The relevant constitutional mandate of the commission, especially on the review of the revenue allocation formula, must be highlighted, the chairman said.
He urged states and local governments to submit their memoranda indicating their views on the new revenue formula at the end of the tour.
