Godwin Eke, a Deputy Director in the Federal Ministry of Works, Lagos State, said on Thursday that work on the reconstruction of the Oshodi/Apapa Expressway was 25 per cent completed.
Eke, who is the engineer-in-charge of the project, told the News Agency of Nigeria that heavy rainfall and high vehicular volume were slowing down the pace of work on the job.
He, however, said that the experience of Julius Berger Nigeria Plc, the contractor handling the project, was helping to achieve results, noting that “not every contractor can work on that road.
“We are approaching the project from both the Apapa and Oshodi ends and the work has reached 25 per cent stage.
“We have laid binder course on two more kilometres of the road and we have finished construction of the median drain from Sanya to Cele bus stops.
“We are now working on the other side from Cele Bus Stop to Apapa.
“We have passed Beachland Estate and now working around Mile 2.”
Eke said that the completion period of the project was March 2015 and that by the end of 2013, the work would have been 35 per cent completed.
He lamented that motorists were usually impatient when approaching the reconstruction site, but disclosed that law enforcement agents were helping to direct and divert traffic, to ease the problem.
