The Independent National Electoral Commission on Friday said it has taken delivery of sensitive materials for the 270 Registration Area Camps created across the 25 Local Government Areas in Delta State.
The sensitive materials, which arrived Asaba, the state capital, on Thursday amidst tight security, was kept at the premises of the Central Bank of Nigeria before their disbursement in the early hours of Friday.
Speaking on the preparedness for Saturday’s presidential and National Assembly polls, the commission’s Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state, Aniedi Ikoiwak, said about two million registered voters with their Permanent Voter Cards in the state would cast their votes for their preferred choice without tears.
Ikoiwak confirmed that security has been beefed up across the designated 3,624 polling units in the state.
Corroborating the REC, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Celestina Kalu, said no fewer than 11,000 men of the command have been commissioned for the exercise.
While Ikoiwak disclosed that 21,564 properly trained INEC staff would conduct the election, about 5,000 already configured Smart Card Readers to be used for the exercise and that any faulty machine would be replaced, Kalu expressed optimism that the exercise would be hitch-free.
