The police has revealed the identity of the policemen who were with the late Deputy Inspector General of Police, John Haruna, when the chopper in which they were carrying out aerial surveillance crashed.
All of them died in the accident on Wednesday.
Those with Haruna, according to a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, Olusola amore, were Assistant Commissioner of Police, Garba Yalwa, who was the pilot; Chief Superintendent of Police Alexander Pwol-Ja, the co-pilot; and Haruna’s orderly, Sergeant Sonatian Shirunam.
The statement said the crash happened at about 11:30am while the officers were on a routine aerial patrol, adding: “The Force, in conjunction with other relevant government agencies, has since commenced investigation into the incident.”
Burial arrangements for the officers, according to the statement, would be announced after due consultations with their families.
Haruna hailed hailed from Lamido in Taraba State.
He was born on August 16, 1958 and enlisted in the force on June 5, 1978.
His retirment date was put at June 5, 2013.
He had served as Deputy Commissioner of Police, Operations, Lagos State Police Command; the Commissioner, Anambra and FCT Command, before he became the DIG “B”.
