Operatives of the Anambra State Police Command have arrested Chisom Nweke for allegedly using charm to defraud Point of Sale operators in Awka, the state capital.
The spokesperson of the Command, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed this in a statement he issued on Friday.
Ikenga said suspects, armed with charms, would cut out plain white paper to the size of a Naira note and give PoS attendants to deposit in an account.
On the latest arrest by the police, he said: “The 26-year-old suspect, Chisom Nweke, M, was arrested on Thursday at about 9am at Umuawulu, Awka along Amawbia Roundabout.
“The suspect who confessed to using charm to defraud POS attendant within Awka and its environs would cut out plain white paper to the size of a Naira note and give POS attendants to deposit in an account.
“The operators only realize that the supposed money are mere paper only after they have transferred the money to the designated account supplied by the alleged suspect.
“We suspect that the culprit works with syndicate, comprising other members and efforts are being made to apprehend them and recover the defrauded amount.
“Investigation is still on going.”
