The Benue State Police Command has confirmed the shooting of campaign vehicles belonging to the state’s All Progressives Congress governorship candidate, Dr. Samuel Ortom.
Gunmen attacked the vehicles at Adikpo on Friday.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the command, ASP Austin Ezeani, confirmed the attack to the News Agency of Nigeria on Friday in Makurdi, the state capital.
Ezeani said the vehicles, a Ford and Toyota Hilux with another utility vehicle, received several shots.
He said all the vehicles were parked near the Adikpo Magistrate Court along the ACC School.
He said the police were yet to establish the motive of the attack but had begun investigations into the matter.
The PPRO appealed to members of the public with useful information on the culprits to volunteer it to security agencies.
Ezeani said no one was injured during the attack but that vehicles parked nearby were affected by the bullets.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Ortom was in Adikpo, Kwande Local Government Area to attend the burial of Dr. Samson Sambe, a lecturer at the Benue State University.
